"because America thinks anybody with a $417k+ mortgage is rich."

Its not necessarily America. They don't set the rates on loans. The banks do. If anybody is being unfair, its the banks.

Class warfare is shameful. Socialism is being pushed down our throats. Whatever happened to freedom.

In fact, might this even be considered discrimination?

Your ex is as responsible for the damaged carpet costs as are you. Contact her and tell her you have no intention of paying for her damage, and that the apartment complex is going to sue both you and her for the total amount (and they WILL). She might come to her senses and pay half of the damage, leaving you with the other half.

You do NOT have a case. Both you and the ex are equally and fully responsible. However, if YOU pay up, then you have to find a way to get the money out of HER. Good luck.

I think you owe half of the bill to the landlord, but definitely not the whole bill since you were both on the lease its divided equally.
But she was the one who did the carpet damage you can sue her in civil court to get back the half of the bill/deposit that you had to give to the landlord. Civil court you don't have to pay for lawyers or any of that, if its only a few hundred or thousand dollars.

You're right. $1-$2 per person is the general rule of thumb at buffets. If you want to leave more that's your prerogative, but unless you're at the $44 seafood buffet at Rio, I don't think $1 is being cheap.

And the waitress copping an attitude because you only left a dollar would only make me want to tip less. I don't understand why she would be obligated to give your dollar to the bartender, who in my mind deserves no tip at all in this situation.

No, I think you are being insanely cheap.

Tipping at buffets is always a tough one, as you said, you are getting your own food. (Not just AC, but anywhere)

But the waitress is doing the same work whether or not you paid for the buffet or not. They aren't treating you any differently because you've got a coupon or were comped. You are choosing to eat at the buffet because you don't want to wait for your meal, and that's your choice, but if that's an $18 buffet you are getting comped, you are leaving $1, and that's cheap.

Tipping should be based on the actual value of the meal (get this overpriced chain restaurants??) and the quality of the service.

If you think the buffet was worth $8.75 and one dollar is about 15% of that, then you're on point.
